Versova was originally called Vesave and is part of north-western old Mumbai city. It is an upmarket neighbourhood which used to be a fishing village. The original name was Visava which means “rest” in Marathi. The fishing community called the Kolis resides at one end of the beach. The neighbourhood is famous for the Versova Fort and the beach. Recently, a massive clean-up of Versova beach was done which has made it the largest ever clean-up of a beach. The beach measures almost 28 acres and the size of the sub locality is 2.97 square kilometres with a tropical wet and dry climate. Versova has an estimated population of 63661 with coordinates of 19°7'60N 72°47'60E. Marathi, Hindi, and English are widely spoken. Infrastructure and Details Versova is served by the BMC or the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the MCGM or the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. Popular places include the Versova Beach, Sakshi Gallery, Shree Ganesh Sai Temple, Kino Cottage, The Great Next etc. Jogeshwari West (3.27 km) and Goregaon West (4.43 km) lie near the Kukatpally housing board colony. Major roads include the Versova Road, Western Express Highway, the Juhu-Versova Link Road, Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) among others. The Juhu Airport is the nearest to Versova which caters to residents. Railway lines include the Western Line. The Versova Metro spans Line 1. Reputed educational institutions include the Bhavan’s College, Orchids Global Learning Academy, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Jankidevi Public School etc. Leading malls like Infiniti, Crystal Point, Citi, and DB Mall are accompanied by reputed hospitals like Nanavati and CritiCare. Major employment hubs include the Nirlon Knowledge Park, NESCO IT Park, Mindspace Malad, and numerous business parks. Companies like Oswal Woollen Mills Limited, Adametric Technologies Pvt Ltd, Sysfo Software Solutions Pvt Ltd, and others have a presence here.
