Poonamallee is a district in the western fringes of Chennai which falls under the Thiruvallur district. Poonamallee is the gateway to Chennai from the West and is also a major residential locality in the city. Poonamallee is close to the NH48 and Chennai Outer Ring Road. The locality enjoys excellent connectivity with the downtown Chennai as well as Tiruvallur. Poonamallee is an important point of halt for buses and taxis on the way to Kanchipuram, Tirupati and Vellore. The Chennai International Airport lies 21 km. away and can be accessed via the Chennai Outer Ring Road. The Chennai Railway Junction lies 24 km. away.
